Relaunch of the Saffron Walden Historical Journal Announced for 2026
Published: 10th May 2026
The Saffron Walden Historical Society has announced the relaunch of its long-running Historical Journal, with a redesigned full-colour edition due to return in spring 2026.
The Saffron Walden Historical Society is preparing to relaunch its Historical Journal in spring 2026, marking a new chapter for one of the town’s established local history publications.
Building on the legacy of the previous 50 editions, the relaunched Journal will focus on original historical research relating to Saffron Walden and the surrounding villages. The Society says the publication will feature newly uncovered stories alongside fresh interpretations of familiar local history topics.
The annual Journal will also include news about the Society’s activities, talks, events and website developments, while encouraging wider participation in local history research and community heritage projects.
A redesigned format has been introduced for the relaunch, including full-colour printing for the first time. The Society hopes the updated design will make the publication more accessible and visually engaging for readers.
The project also reflects a wider ambition to strengthen collaboration between local history groups across the region. The Society says the Journal will provide opportunities for neighbouring societies and researchers to publish new work and share information about their own activities.
In announcing the relaunch, the Society highlighted the wider social value of history and heritage activities, citing their role in supporting identity, community connection and wellbeing.
The publication will continue to be independently funded through Society membership subscriptions and Journal sales. The Society is currently seeking sponsors to help support production costs and future development of the publication.
