Supporting your academic research

There is an increasing interest in local history as a key element of academic studies – not just the content that has been published by local historians over the decades as a key research resource, but also in co-produced projects. Grant-awarding bodies such as the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) have placed an increasing emphasis on collaborations and partnerships when considering the award of research funding, and BALH provides the perfect platform for academic researchers to locate key groups and ongoing activity.

Meet the team

Sophie Anstee de Mas

Sophie developed a love for local history through childhood museum visits, later studying History at Bristol and earning a master’s in Museum and Gallery Studies at St Andrews. Passionate about public engagement, she worked with English Heritage on youth outreach projects and now serves on their Blue Plaque panel. During lockdown, she explored her own family’s history, deepening her appreciation for connecting people to the past. Now working in the Grants and Funding department at The National Archives, she is excited to bring her expertise in engagement to BALH as a trustee.
