In that time we have awarded around 100 active local historians, from England, Wales, Scotland, and the Isle of Man.

The award recipients share a knowledge and enthusiasm for local history, as well as an ability to educate and encourage other people to get involved too, often over a period of many years. This inspiration has come in many ways, including planning research and publishing projects, research and writing themselves, talking to groups, answering questions, organising local archives, running a museum, planning heritage trails and helping local schoolchildren become active local historians.
