BALH is looking for a new Treasurer
Published: 27th July 2023
This key role is essential to the daily running of BALH and enables full insight into the running of the organisation.
The Treasurer oversees all the financial affairs of the charity. Working with our management consultants Moore Insight, who provide BALH with basic secretariat, bookkeeping and audit services, the Treasurer is responsible for the following:
- Setting the financial strategy, including budgets
- Providing written and verbal reports at quarterly Trustees’ meetings (usually online)
- Supervising the audit
- Presenting the annual results to the membership at the AGM
- Approving all expenditure and monitoring the online bank account
- Overseeing all areas of income, especially subscriptions (together with the Membership Secretary)
Although formal accounting and bookkeeping qualifications are not essential, the Treasurer needs to have a good understanding of balance sheets, profit and loss accounts, cashflows and the nominal ledger. He or she needs to be thoroughly IT literate and have a good understanding of managing an online bank account.
The Treasurer is responsible to the Chair on day-to-day affairs, to the Trustees on all strategic issues and ultimately to the membership. The total time commitment is about 2-3 days a month, on average. The role is voluntary but reasonable expenses will be met.
Expressions of interest should be made to the Chair, Dr Paul Dryburgh, at chair@balh.org.uk.
