Mark Forrest introduces his talk at Local History Day

Manorial documents are an under-used source for local history.

They offer a wealth of information about farming practices, village customs, inheritance, crime and local government, essential to understanding past communities.

Mark’s talk explores both rural and urban records, the types of records available, functions of the courts and some unexpected ways in which they can be used to contribute to local histories. Take this opportunity to pick the brains of a man who worked for over a decade as an archivist at the Dorset History Centre and now works as a freelance archival consultant and collections manager.

Join Mark at the beautiful and historic Conway Hall, London on Saturday 11th June for a fantastic day learning about the world of local history, meeting great historians.
