The British Association of Local History is recruiting a freelance Projects Manager to support its programme of events, outreach activity, and small grants, with a six-month contract running from July to December 2026.
Freelance Projects Manager for the British Association of Local History
BALH is looking for a motivated and organised freelance Projects Manager. This role will boost our capacity to deliver and grow an exciting programme of online and in‑person outreach events, member activities, and small grant awards.
Location:
Home-based with an expectation to attend events nationally
Duration:
1 July – 31 December 2026
Budget:
£8,000 for 6 months, inclusive of VAT, plus reasonable expenses
Main duties:
Event Management & Co‑ordination
- Manage and co‑ordinate BALH online events
- Organise in‑person events (including regional conferences & weekend events)
- Co‑ordinate BALH involvement in external events
- Event promotion
Outreach Communication
- Serve as first point of contact for BALH via the outreach inbox
Marketing & Promotion
- Assist promotion of the BALH through press and media
- Help to develop new marketing channels
Small Grants Programme
- Manage communication and support for Small Grants recipients
