Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society

Founded in Manchester in 1883, the Lancashire & Cheshire Antiquarian Society explores the history, archaeology and heritage of Lancashire and Cheshire.

The Lancashire & Cheshire Antiquarian Society was founded in Manchester in 1883 to promote the study of the history and archaeology of Lancashire and Cheshire. Its interests span prehistory to the present day, covering traditional and industrial archaeology, social and economic history, architecture, trades and transport, and local customs.

The Society has published its journal, Transactions, since 1884, providing a platform for new research across the region. It also organises monthly Zoom talks and regular field visits to historic sites, runs a programme of research grants for students and researchers, and offers a Digital Membership option giving access to digitised editions of Transactions (1883–2006) and recorded talks.
