Dr Adrian Webb currently edits the longest running dedicated local history publication covering theancient county of Somerset, Somerset and Dorset Notes and Queries. His interests in the late 16thand 17th century has resulted in the creation of the Maritime History of Somerset series, as well as books on Somerset’s ancient church fonts, maps, subsidies, wills, probate inventories and maritime charts for the Somerset Record Society.
His local studies include a detailed examination with Phillip Ashford of the 17th century parish of St Decuman's (better known as Watchet and Williton). This study is revealing an extraordinary range of examples of the life and times of ordinary people. Other interests include the loyalties of Somerset men on the eve of the English civil war of 1642.
He holds a Masters and a PhD from the University of Exeter, and has written and lecturedinternationally on Great Britain’s hydrographic heritage. His publications include a book on the firstdetailed hydrographic survey of Bermuda, and contributions to international academic publications The Maritime History of Cornwall and The Mariners Mirror. He currently manages the Archive at the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office containing a worldwide collection of historic cartographicrecords. Many of these records reveal information about aspects of local communities around thecoast of the United Kingdom.
